It looks like fall (look at that amber golden colored drink), it smells like fall(apples, oranges and all those wonderful spices cooking in the pot – my house smells amazing), and it tastes definitely like fall (with all the aromatic spices of fall)!.
Making homemade apple cider from scratch is really easy. And recipe calls for just a hand full of seasonal ingredients plus 3 minutes hands-on time. Also we are making this spiced apple cider in instant pot. We are talking dump and push start easiness. That is easy right!
You’ll fall in love with this warm and soothing glass of apple cider. It’s also a wonderful drink to heal your sore throat.
The way I like to drink spiced apple cider – feet up on the couch covered in snugly sweater and warm my palm first with a mug of hot apple cider and then sip in on. It’s reminds me of apple pie. The spices, apples and oranges – yes of course apple pie!
Oh the orange juice in this apple cider is so festive. Oil that gets released from orange peel while cooking it along with cinnamon, clove and star anise imparts a wonderful fragrance. My house smells so festive. And the drink is so festive too.
Picture yourself having a glass of this festive cider on Christmas morning! Sounds like the best Christmas isn’t it? I agree! You definitely want to make this on for Christmas breakfast. And if you can spike it up with alcohol for a great Christmas Eve celebration drink.
Making apple cider in Instant pot has a big advantage. You can cook fruits quickly and after you strain, you could leave apple cider in instant pot for keeping it warm for few hours(using the keep warm setting).
Store apple cider juice in fridge and warm it up any time you want to drink. Homemade apple cider stays good for a week in fridge and longer in freezer.

Apple cider is more popular name in US, Canada. It refers to sweet beverage drink made from apples. It’s an un-fermented drink made by crushing fruit, typically apples. The drink can be spiked with alcohol/spirit of your choice or served as non-alcoholic drink.

How to Make Apple Cider Recipe
Simply cook apples along with oranges (thrown in some lemon if you don’t mind the tang) along with whole spices that are fall favorite spices. We are talking star anise, cinnamon, cloves. You can spice it up little more with little all spice powder if you like.
We promised this recipe takes very little hands-on time and we mean it. You simply have to chop apples and oranges rough. Don’t bother removing seeds or skin.
Throw roughly chopped fruits into instant pot along with whole spices and brown sugar. I’ve used brown sugar, maple syrup would be perfect sweetener for apple cider recipe.
Cook with enough water for 15 minutes. Let instant pot naturally release pressure for 15 minutes. Then open the lid after manual pressure release. Mash, strain and store or serve.

Ingredients Needed
You need just a handful of ingredients most of it you probably already have it in your fridge and pantry.
Apples – a mix of red gala apples, Honey crisp apples, green Granny Smith apples.
Oranges
Maple syrup (or brown sugar or honey for sweetener)
Spices – Cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise and nutmeg
All spice powder – optional (I skipped)
Ginger – (optional, I skipped) great for fall so we think adding ginger to apple cider would be great.

Step-by-Step Pictorial of Easy Instant Pot Apple Cider Recipe
Step 1
Dump fruits into instant pot. Don’t bother to remove seeds or skin, simply chop fruits roughly and dump.
Step 2
Add in the whole spices. You can tie all spices in a small muslin cloth and dump it in so removing spices is a breeze.
Step 3
Pour enough water to cover all the fruits. Add sweetener, I added ¼ cup brown sugar. Maples syrup would be BEST. Or use Stevia, coconut sugar or even honey.
Step 4
Cover and cook on HIGH PRESSURE for 15 minutes.
Step 5
Let instant pot naturally release pressure for 15 minutes. Then manually release all pressure.
Step 6
Once pressure completely settles, open lid. Remove all spices out.
Step 7
Using potato masher mash all the fruits in the liquid to release all juices and wonderful oil into it.
Step 8
Use a fine mesh strainer or a muslin cloth to strain all the juices out.
Step 9
Repeat until you have strained all the juices out.
Step 10
Serve warm as it is in glasses or garnish with any garnish options of your choice.
We used cinnamon stick, star anise (because it’s beautiful) and fresh cranberries for garnish. You could also chop some fresh apples and place it on top of the cider and slice an orange and place that for garnish. Choice is yours.

Ingredients
- 6 apples a mix of red gala, Honeycrisp and Granny Smith apples
- 2 oranges
- 2 sticks cinnamon
- 2 teaspoon cloves about 20
- 1 whole nutmeg
- 2 to 3 star anise
- ¼ cup brown sugar or maple syrup or stevia or even coconut sugar
- Enough water to cover the fruit
Garnish (optional, any one or many as you like)
- Cinnamon stick
- Star Anise
- Fresh Cranberries
- Chopped apples
- Orange slices
Instructions
Wash apples and oranges.
Roughly chop apples and oranges. Don’t bother removing seeds or skin.
Throw all fruits in instant pot.
Add all the whole spices.
Pour enough water to completely cover the fruits inside the pot.
Add brown sugar. Give it a stir.
Secure the lid in it’s place.
Select HIGH PRESSURE setting and adjust timer to 15 minutes.
Once cooking time is complete, allow instant pot to naturally release pressure for 15 minutes.
Then manually release pressure by turning pressure knob from sealing to venting position.
Wait for pressure to be release completely.
Open lid.
Remove all the whole spices.
Mash using potato masher.
Strain the cider in fine mesh strainer or in muslin cloth. Squeeze out as much juice you can. Discard the residues.
Serve warm as it is or garnished with cinnamon stick, few fresh cranberries (after all it’s fall), some chopped apples, a slice of orange or just plain in individual mugs.
Store instant pot apple cider in fridge for upto 7 days or freeze it for longer.

PRO-TIP: To make it easier, tie all whole spices in a small muslin cloth and chuck it into the pot for cooking. Once cooked, simple remove the muslin cloth holding spices, instead of picking each and every individual spice.
